The police and the Customs Agency were notified today of a major discovery of drugs at one of Bama’s warehouses. It was one of the employees who discovered it and reported it. The lot was discovered in a container that had previously arrived by ship to the port of Oslo from South America. – We are now investigating how large the seizure is, but it is probably around 600 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of several hundred million kroner, the police write in a press release. The seizure may be related to the previous large seizures, and other large seizures in Europe recently. – We have to assume that those behind it and criminal actors will look for or try to gain control of the substance. When it comes to such large values, this can also pose a security risk. The police therefore go public so early in the investigation with a message to actors connected to this drug, nationally or internationally, that the lot has been seized by the police, the police state. In both March and April, similar cocaine seizures were made in banana crates at Bama. Those attachments were quickly put together. – In any case, there are similarities in mode. It is a legal cargo linked to bananas, and based on information it appears that this cargo also comes from Ecuador and has visited another port, said head of the joint unit for intelligence and investigation in Oslo police district Grete Lien Metlied. The police do not know who was intended as the recipient of the new delivery. – The police are working on several hypotheses, where one of the theories may be that this was not intended for Norway and the Norwegian market, based on, among other things, the amount and size of the seizure. However, we cannot rule out that the lot was intended for sale in Norway.
