This is confirmed by the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, writes AFP. On Tuesday 17 September, hundreds of pagers used by Hezbollah members exploded. Almost 3,000 people were injured and several were killed in the attack. In the following days, hundreds of walkie-talkies also exploded. Hezbollah had ditched mobile phones in favor of pagers in an attempt to avoid espionage. It has subsequently been established that over 5,000 pagers were laced with explosives before they arrived in Lebanon. It was pointed out early on that Israeli intelligence was behind the attacks – but until now the Israeli authorities have not openly accepted responsibility.
