Nav employee Marianne Amundsen was killed at work for Nav in Bergen – man sentenced to 21 years in custody – news Vestland

On 20 September last year, the man attacked Marianne Amundsen and Ida Aulin in a user conversation at Nav Årstad. He had a knife in his rucksack, which he pulled out immediately after the meeting started. The man took just 29 seconds to stab the two with at least 45 stab wounds. Amundsen was killed in the attack, while Aulin suffered knife injuries and survived. In the trial, it was central for the prosecution to prove that the man is sane. The prosecutor asked for the law’s most severe sentence: 21 years in prison. Now the district court has concluded. The man is sentenced to 21 years in custody. – The Norwegian Social Protection Agency is well taken care of with this result, says state attorney May-Britt Erstad to news. The attack took place in the safest conversation room at Nav Årstad. Photo: The police told of massive violence Eight dramatic minutes were reviewed during the trial. Witnesses told of massive violence and aggression in the meeting room, but an unproblematic arrest. – It seemed that he had done what he was supposed to and that he was waiting for us, said the first police officer who arrived at the scene. SENTENCED: The man must serve a long sentence. Photo: Jon Bolstad / news Believes Amundsen was defenseless “Marianne Amundsen was defenseless and without the opportunity to defend herself and escape”, the verdict states. The attack took place in the safest conference room at the office in Bergen. Aulin, who survived the attack, told the court that Amundsen was “trapped in the room.” The court believes the man attacked with intent to kill. Defense attorney Morten Grimstad informs news that the client will appeal the verdict. – We believe he was mentally ill when he did this, and therefore we will appeal, says Grimstad. Aggravating that Nav employees were attacked Prosecutor May-Britt Erstad believes the murder was planned. The man had bought the murder weapon eight days before the attack. – In my opinion, the knife was bought with the intention of taking it to Nav Årstad to kill, she said in court. In the judgment, emphasis is placed on the fact that the attack took place against two employees of Nav. “Furthermore emphasis is placed on the aggravating fact that the murder and attempted murder took place against public servants in NAV, whose work, among other things, is to facilitate the users’ need for assistance. This was also the purpose of the relevant meeting with the accused.” According to the verdict, the children of Marianne Amundsen will be awarded a total of NOK 1.4 million in compensation. Aulin, who was injured in the attack, will receive NOK 300,000 in compensation. Doubts about sanity The public prosecutor initially thought the man was insane and wanted a sentence with a transfer to compulsory mental health care. Shortly before the trial, the indictment was changed. The public prosecutor wanted to sentence the man to prison. The man himself believes that he is ill and was insane at the time of the crime, and told the court that he did not remember anything from the attack. The man turned up at the agreed time at Nav Årstad. Photo: Nav Årstad The psychiatric experts, Gunnar Johannessen and Kirsten Rasmussen, presented their report on the accused man (40) during the trial. The man has previously been diagnosed with simple schizophrenia and delusions, but the experts believed that this could not explain the murders. The court has found it proven that the man was sane at the time of the act, according to the judgement. – We are satisfied that the court shares our view on the issue of sanity, and the country decided on the correct response, which we believe is detention, says Attorney General Erstad.
