NATO today extends Stoltenberg’s term – Latest news – news

4 July 2023 at 07:49 Diplomatic sources to NTB: NATO extends Stoltenberg’s term today NATO member states will apparently extend Jens Stoltenberg’s term as secretary general by one year at a meeting today, according to four diplomats. In recent weeks, there have been several signals that Stoltenberg will continue as NATO chief, and according to the NATO diplomats, the final decision on this will be taken at a meeting today. Stoltenberg took over as secretary-general in 2014, and he has had his term extended three times previously, most recently in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. The current term expires in September, and 64-year-old Stoltenberg said in February that he did not want a further extension. However, NATO’s member states have not been able to agree on a successor, and many indications therefore suggest that he will be asked to continue in the post for another twelve months. (NTB)
