Mysterious lights in the sky in northern Norway – news Nordland

This evening, several people have observed three mysterious white lights in the sky this evening. The police in Nordland write on Twitter that they have received several reports about this strange light. It turned out to be a research rocket that had been launched from the Swedish Esrange Space Center in Kiruna. Project manager for the project at Esrange, Krister Sjölander, tells news that the rocket is like a firework. – The rocket has around eight firework launchers which are activated at different heights in the atmosphere. It creates a local northern lights phenomenon, says Sjölander. Will also launch rocket at Andøya Norway’s Andøya Space also plans to launch research rockets on Thursday evening. That’s according to the head of Andøya Space Sub-Orbital Kolbjørn Blix. – The one that went up from Esrange is a Swedish rocket. The four we have are NASA rockets. And it is an attempt that deals with the same type of knowledge that they have developed in Sweden. He says the reason they launch rockets is to find out how the dynamics of the air stream are in the part of the sky where the northern lights are. – To do that, you can launch a rocket into the sky that contains a substance that you released into the atmosphere. It will be affected by the wind that is there. Then you will see how fast and in what directions it operates, and how fast it goes, says Blix. Three ground stations on Andøya, Alta and outside Bodø will also take pictures of this so that they can find out what the air current is like. A NASA plane will also be used to take pictures of the phenomenon. That’s because when the air rises above the northern lights, the satellites will feel it as a speed bump and cause them, for example, to come lower than they should, explains Blix.
