Must run 5,000 meters with a fever – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran to WC silver in the 1500 meters on Wednesday evening. Afterwards, he revealed that he has been struggling with a sore throat, which he only felt on Sunday. Before Thursday’s 5,000 metres, the measurements show that Ingebrigtsen has a fever. He reveals that to news. – Have you shaken off yesterday physically and mentally? – No. – What is still left behind? – I’m still not quite 100 percent. There is still a slight fever and the throat is still slightly swollen. I have to try to save some energy, both in the warm-up and hopefully have a good race, says Ingebrigtsen. The 22-year-old says that he did not have a fever when he woke up, but measurements showed that he had a fever in the hours before the start. – I don’t have much to lose. Ingebrigtsen is the reigning world champion at 5,000 metres. About running with a fever, he replies: – I don’t have much to lose. I just have to try. Today, it is primarily about getting to a final, so then it is to finish in the top eight. Of course, it’s awkward that I’m in the situation I’m in, but right now I just have to try to do the best I can and focus on the tasks at hand. – Fortunately, it’s warm, so I can allow myself a couple of minutes shorter warm-up. It’s not much more than that. I have to try to do the best I can. Ingebrigtsen will run together with, among others, Narve Gilje Nordås in the first heat of 5000 meters at 19.00. In the second heat there are also two Norwegians. Henrik Ingebrigtsen and Magnus Tuv Myhre will run there. Watch the broadcast that starts at 18.45 here: Recognizing the course from former national team doctor Ove Talsnes explains Ingebrigtsen’s illness like this: – It’s going reasonably well, then. He is relatively healthy, but he was not healthy enough to win the gold yesterday. It has not gotten worse until today and he has chosen to decide to stand. We are very excited about how it goes, says the doctor. – We recognize this from some competitions in the past, where he has not been in quite optimal shape, says Talsnes. Ingebrigtsen hopes he can be quicker towards a possible final in the 5000 meters on Sunday evening. – I don’t quite have the answers myself, apart from the fact that I don’t feel quite 100 per cent. A few more days of rest, if I get on… I can run. I’m in good shape, but it doesn’t help when the body doesn’t play well, says Ingebrigtsen. Here is what Ingebrigtsen said after Wednesday’s WC silver: Nordås exhausted after bronze For Narve Gilje Nordås, Wednesday’s 1,500 meters was his definitive breakthrough at the top of the world. The 24-year-old was the fastest of all in the last hundred meters and ran into WC bronze – just three hundredths of a second behind Ingebrigtsen. – I’m a bit drained, I’ll admit it. I didn’t sleep that many hours last night, he says to news. At the same time, he says that he felt “surprisingly good” at the training session on Thursday morning. Nordås has previously participated in the 5,000 meters in both the WC and the Olympics, but without reaching a final. – I am completely dependent on a trick race to move on. If there is speed from the start, then I must honestly admit that then I struggle, he says with a smile.
