After the murder, the history of the defendant in the emergency department was reviewed by Trondheim municipality and St. Olav’s hospital. The conclusion was that no measures could have reduced the risk of serious violence. The defendant has had problems with functioning since he was a child, the prosecutor stated. The 24-year-old has not completed primary school. – He has been diagnosed with “mild mental retardation” in the medical sense, said the prosecutor. There are no signs that the defendant was insane or psychotic. Since 2018, the man has lived in a municipal flat and received help from the municipality. The defendant’s mother will testify in court. She has previously told the media that she notified the municipality several times that her son needed more help than he got. Then he can be sentenced to custody due to the risk of serious new violence. The defendant has been examined by forensic psychiatrists.
