– I expect that we will get support for this, says Marit Hougsrud (Sp). She is the mayor of Sør-Aurdal municipality in Valdres – one of several municipalities that was badly hit by the extreme weather “Hans”. There, the secondary school was under water, a landslide went right through a housing estate and several small and large roads were destroyed. Now the municipality has roughly calculated how much the extreme weather has cost the municipality. Total: NOK 68 million. Expecting the state to pick up the bill The 68 million in Sør-Aurdal is only a small part of the pot of discretionary funds that the flimsy municipalities in Austlandet have applied for. – We do not have the finances to suddenly be able to take these millions without further ado, so I expect that we will get good help for this, says the mayor of Sør-Aurdal. During the extreme weather “Hans”, Sør-Aurdal youth school in Bagn was under water. The damage is so great that the school cannot be used. According to Mayor Marit Hougsrud (Sp), there may be talk of moving the entire school. The municipality has applied for NOK 15 million in support. 3 of these millions went to hotel expenses under “Hans”. Will have to cover a lot – It is a heavy lift for the municipalities, both this year and next year. We are not finished with this yet, says Anne Kathrine Fossum, municipal and coordination director at the State Administrator in the Interior. In Innlandet, a total of 29 out of 46 municipalities have applied for discretionary funds after “Hans”. The amount ranges from NOK 204 million, which Gran municipality has applied for, to NOK 100,000, which Alvdal has requested. – This says something about the fact that many people were affected by the storm in different ways, some more severely than others, says Fossum. The extreme weather led to great destruction in Austlandet. The municipalities in Viken and Innlandet are asking for support of over NOK 800 million. The ticket is from Dokka in Nordre Land municipality. Photo: Theodor Eilertsen She says that the municipalities will be reimbursed much of the amount they have applied for. The money will be transferred to the municipalities in December. news has tried to get a comment from Municipal and District Minister Sigbjørn Gjelsvik (Sp) without success. Still property Even if the municipalities have asked for millions of kroner in support, they still have to cover parts of the clean-up work themselves. The property is NOK 250 per resident. Municipalities that have expenses that exceed NOK 250 per resident can have half of the expenses covered. This means that several municipalities fall outside the Ministry’s scheme. Although the amount does not exceed NOK 250 per inhabitant, several municipalities have had significant additional costs as a result of the storm. Oslo is among the municipalities that fell outside the scheme. The municipality had costs of NOK 43 million due to the extreme weather. Drammen municipality has so far had costs of NOK 6.5 million. Lillestrøm municipality has reported costs of NOK 5.1 million. Nittedal municipality had costs of NOK 4.5 million as a result of the extreme weather “Hans”. Nevertheless, these four municipalities fell outside the scheme. Now the State Administrator in Viken is asking the ministry to take a closer look at the municipalities that fell outside the support scheme.
