4 May 2023 at 10:25 Much more ammunition in Mjøsa than thought Mjøsa contains far greater amounts of dumped ammunition than has been known until now. The Norwegian Defense Research Institute (FFI) believes this to have been proven after examining four dumping areas in Mjøsa, from Gjøvik down to Totenvika. From 1940 until 1970, ammunition from Raufoss and the Norwegian Armed Forces was dumped in Mjøsa, and it has previously been said that it is about 100 to 200 tonnes in total. Chief researcher Arnt Johnsen at FFI tells NTB that they have information which suggests that it could perhaps be ten to twenty times as much. – We have sources that say that 30 tonnes could be dumped in one day. This traffic took place over many years, says Johnsen at the Norwegian Defense Research Institute.
