On the night of Saturday, a leisure boat with nine people capsized in the sea at the island of Teksmona in Meløy. Two people died in the accident. The seven other people were injured to varying degrees. All those involved are local young people between the ages of 18 and 20. On Saturday evening, many of the village’s youth had taken to the road to drive a motorcade through Meløy. The two who died in the boat accident on Saturday night were part of the car community in the village. – They were on the strip with us, talking and smiling. We had fun together. To show that we are a team, to show that you are not alone, says Jonassen and adds: – You should never need to stand alone. If you need to talk to someone, you have us. If you need to chat, don’t hesitate to send a message. Meløy municipality has set up a crisis team and set up a contact phone number for residents who need contact with the crisis team. The municipality’s website states that the psychosocial crisis team has also been activated. The municipality also has a relatives’ center at the Meløy health and welfare centre. This becomes a little more personal, says Jonassen. Gathered on the beach The procession went from the center of Ørnes to Storvika. A memorial service was held there to honor those who died. – I hope that they see and understand that we care. When we do this, we show that we care.
