Morten-Johan Åsvang Halvorsen and Emil Johansen died in the boat accident in Meløy – news Nordland

On the night of Saturday, a leisure boat capsized in the sea at the island of Teksmona in Meløy. There were a total of nine involved, all of whom were local young people. It was 18-year-old Morten Johan Åsvang Halvorsen from Reipå and 19-year-old Emil Johansen from Neverdal in Meløy who died in the boat accident. Life-saving first aid was performed at the scene. When health personnel arrived, both were pronounced dead by a doctor, the police said. The investigation continues. Police operations leader Jon Inge Moen told news on Saturday that it appeared as if the pleasure boat had gone ashore on a rock, and then sunk. – That is one of the questions we seek to get answers to through the investigation. We are working diligently to find the full sequence of events, says task leader Jon Inge Moen. The police will now find out what and why the accident happened. The police are now trying to form a picture of what led to the accident, and everyone has been questioned. – The investigation so far has shown that the boat has had a relatively high speed for the conditions, and that there has been intoxication involved, the press release continues. In addition to this, the police are still in an early phase of the investigation and can therefore not provide further details in the case. Third fatal accident this summer The boat accident that happened on the night of Saturday is the third fatal accident to affect the Meløy community this summer. On 20 June, Aud-Karine Skogli (31) died in a collision at Reipå in Meløy. A little under a month later, Tonje Olsen Jacobsen (25) died in a collision on the E6 in Saltdal.
