More sponsorship trouble for the Ski Association – Equinor finished as sponsor for cross-country skiing and football – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

The Norwegian Skiing Association and the Norwegian Football Association will lose their very lucrative sponsorship agreements with Equinor next year. The energy company announces a change of course regarding its own sponsorship strategy. Equinor has for a long time been a heavy player on the sponsorship side in Norwegian sports, including in the form of significant agreements with the Skiing Association and the Football Association. These will expire next year, and the collaboration will not be renewed. The company’s sponsorship manager Thea Moen confirms this to Kampanje on Tuesday. – Both the agreement with the Norwegian Football Association and the Norwegian Skiing Association come to a natural end next year, and both are sponsorships that we will not be extending. We do not rule out cooperation with sports in the future, it will primarily be with local communities where we are present, she says to the industry website. The sponsor manager adds that the energy company wants “a change” in who and what they will sponsor in the future. The aim is, among other things, to facilitate even more sponsorship collaborations in the sciences, science and technology. The latter is linked to the company’s stated ambition to be a leader in the energy transition. For the Norwegian Skiing Association, the decision that has now been taken also means that a new large and important partner will disappear next year. – It is always very boring news to receive from a partner when they do not choose to continue, regardless of the reason, says general manager for cross-country skiing Cathrine Instebø in the Norwegian Ski Association to NTB. – We have had a long and good collaboration, and it has been a very important agreement that has meant a lot to our investment in talent. When such a significant player chooses to leave, we also think that it provides an opportunity for another partner to take a clear position, she adds. Commercial director Runar Pahr Andresen of the Norwegian Football Association does not hide the importance of the agreement, which is now coming to an end. – The collaboration between Equinor and the Norwegian Football Association has lasted for over 25 years with the main focus on developing our greatest talents through age-specific national teams, the national team school and talent camps. This is one of the longest and most significant partnerships in Norwegian sport, and the support and commitment from Equinor has helped shape several of today’s top players, both on the men’s and women’s side, he tells NTB.
