24 October 2022 at 08:18 FHI: More people die from strong painkillers than from heroin overdoses There are now more people in Norway who die from overdoses of strong painkillers than from heroin overdoses. The increase has occurred in the same period as an increasing number of people have received such painkillers on a blue prescription. This is shown by a study from the Folkehelseinstiuttet. In 2010, 30 per cent of overdose deaths in this country were due to strong painkillers with opioids, and 70 per cent were due to heroin. In 2018, the distribution had changed to 60 and 40 per cent respectively. – We do not know whether those who died had the medicines prescribed by a doctor, or obtained them in some other way, stresses project manager and senior researcher Linn Gjersing.
