– There is a kind of win-win logic here. Many celebrities tend to be on TV, and the channels tend to have them in their programmes, says media researcher Vilde Schanke Sundet at OsloMet University. This year, the four major channels offer 47 celebrity-based programmes, compared to 36 last year. The channels use YouTube and TikTok stars in a kind of lobbing function, to get more young people to watch TV, says researcher Vilde Schanke Sundet. She believes that the channels are trying to reach out widely, also in the casting of celebrities. – They think that if you manage to find a celebrity for everyone in the family, then you have collected the population. But it is quite difficult today to find people who everyone knows who they are. And for Christmas, then the Christmas calendars come.
