11 July 2024 at 11:44 Mining accident in Poland – at least ten injured and several missing On Thursday, a coal mine in Poland was hit by a strong earthquake, Polish authorities report. At least ten people have been injured and sent to hospital, and rescue workers are still looking for more employees underground, writes AP News. 68 miners were underground in the area when the incident occurred, Polish Coal Mining Group spokesperson Aleksandra Wysocka-Siembiga told Polish media. At least 12 people are still found at a depth of around 1.2 kilometres, according to Polish Onet Wiadomosci at 2pm. Two persons shall not be accounted for. The incident happened in a coal mine in the town of Rydultowy. The coal mine has been in operation since 1792, and has around 2,000 miners. Two employees have previously lost their lives in the mine in 2019 and 2020.
