In the world of professional golf, age is often seen as a limiting factor, but  Miguel Ángel Jiménez  proves that this notion can be shattered. At 61 years old, Jiménez is enjoying a remarkable career resurgence, marked by  four victories  this year alone. Recently, he clinched the  Kaulig Companies Championship , showcasing his skills on the senior circuit where legends aged  50 and above  compete. In a lighthearted conversation with fellow golfer  Joaquín Niemann , Jiménez humorously remarked, “They want to bury me a porrón of years,” highlighting his enduring spirit. He claims to be  incombustible , a term that clearly embodies his passion and resilience in the sport.

During a recent episode of the  Play Golf Podcast , Jiménez reflected on his career with a mix of nostalgia and determination. “I am 61 years old and I do not know how many more I will be playing,” he mused. Still, he affirms that as long as he can continue making solid contact with the ball—just as he did 20 years ago—he will keep playing. His impressive longevity raises an essential question: what’s the secret to his success? “I make the same distance with the irons and wood that I was 20 years old,” he stated, underscoring the meticulous work he puts into his game.

The Anticipation of Tiger Woods

As the golf community eagerly awaits the possible debut of  Tiger Woods  in the senior circuit by  2026 , Jiménez expressed his hope for Woods to participate, recognizing the impact such a high-profile player would bring. “Many rumors are heard, but we don’t know anything officially. I hope it comes because it would be a  revulsive  for our circuit,” he asserted. The anticipation around Woods emphasizes the ever-changing landscape of golf and the excitement it generates among fans and players alike.

A Rich Career

Throughout his extensive career, Jiménez has participated in  1,013 tournaments , an astounding achievement that marks him as one of the most experienced players in history. With  21 victories  on the  DP World Tour , he holds the record for being the oldest winner at age 50. Jiménez also boasts  17 victories  in the Champions Tour, including three prestigious majors. After a challenging period of two years without a win, he finally turned his luck around. “I started kicking with a putter of my wife, who has a pink grip,” Jiménez explained. He humorously noted how he once had to requisition his wife  Susanna’s  putter when she unintentionally “gave it an air” during a tournament. Such anecdotes capture the humor and lightheartedness Jiménez brings to the sport.

During his drought of victories, Jiménez experimented with various techniques, including contemplating using a  broom putter , a style famously adopted by  Bernhard Langer , the senior circuit’s most successful golfer. “I would prohibit the broom putter … We had an argument, but our relationship is now good,” he recounted, adding a personal touch to his career journey. Golf regulations prohibit anchoring the putter against the body, an ongoing debate Langer’s style has ignited.

A Unique Living Arrangement

Despite his success on the course, Jiménez is known for his dedication to enjoying life. He prefers to stay away from the bustling lifestyle in the United States and instead resides in the  Dominican Republic , a choice that allows him to escape and recharge between tournaments. Additionally, he balances life in the Dominican Republic with stays in  Austria  and his hometown of  Malaga . “It’s about enjoying the things you like; although sometimes you have to make sacrifices,” he affirmed, addressing the importance of maintaining a balanced life.

Jiménez has also voiced his concerns about the political climate in Spain. “I have the hair at the end; I do not understand how we are not all on the street to throw these uncles that we have there … They are outraging us,” he expressed, demonstrating his willingness to engage with issues off the golf course. His outspoken nature gives audiences a glimpse into his beliefs and values.

Future Aspirations

Despite contemplating his future in the sport, Jiménez has made it clear that he will continue to give 120% in every game. He has closed the chapter on his Ryder Cup days but remains a respected figure in golf. On the topic of players who have migrated to  LIV Golf , he stated, “Teta and soup do not fit in their mouths. If you sell for 200 kilos, you stay there and goodbye.” His candid remarks indicate his commitment to integrity in the sport. With his recent victory, he has now earned the opportunity to compete in the prestigious  Players Championship 2026 , which boasts the  largest prize money  in golf. Jiménez aims to make history by winning the order of merit in the senior circuit, a feat that would solidify his legacy. “I would make me illusion,” he concluded, demonstrating the ambition that drives him.
