25 October 2023 at 13:34 Meta is suing the Danish Data Protection Authority for the second time. This summer, the Danish Data Protection Authority issued a temporary ban on the use of personal data for marketing against Meta. Now the supervisory authority reports on its website that Meta has sued them for the second time to stop the decision. – Since Meta has not followed the Data Protection Authority’s decision, we imposed a compulsory fine of NOK 1 million per day from 14 August. Meta believes that the compulsory fine must also be abolished, writes the inspectorate. The trial will probably take place sometime in 2024, according to the inspectorate. The Norwegian Data Protection Authority’s decision could potentially have major consequences for Meta. Their decision is temporary and only for Norway, but it is now being processed by the Personal Data Protection Council in the EU. If the supervisory authority prevails with its view, the ban can be extended to several countries in Europe. Meta owns Instagram and Facebook.
