Medical student from NTNU lost the lawsuit against the state in court – news Trøndelag – Local news, TV and radio

A medical student at NTNU has lost the lawsuit against the state over plagiarism in the 2022 exam. The student had been given extra time on the home exam. Then there were technical problems. He then contacted a fellow student via Facebook, who had already submitted the assignment, and asked if that person had seen the summary. Was banned The examiners who reported suspected cheating believed that the student had copied answers from the student he contacted. The examiners thought it was plagiarism, but the student refused. He was suspended for two semesters. In September 2023, he issued a summons against the State at the Ministry of Education and Science, alleging that the banning decision was invalid. Trøndelag District Court points to similarities in eight assignments in a row, and believes it is proven that the student copied from a fellow student’s assignment. All aids were permitted during the exam and there was no requirement to provide a source. But what was not allowed was communicating with other people about the task and sending draft answers, the court points out. Varying explanations According to the court, the student has given varying explanations as the case progressed. This weakens his credibility, the court believes. Based on the previous explanations and other documents in the case, the court believes that the explanation appears adapted to the case. The fellow student who was contacted did not do anything illegal, the review at NTNU shows.
