11 July 2023 at 17:12 Bilbao won raucous Tour stage Most people expected a breakout day on the 10th stage of the Tour de France, but from the start several of the overall guns got involved. Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Simon and Adam Yates were among those who agreed to the attacks from the start of the stage. – This is unheard of, said news commentator Ole Kristian Stoltenberg. The stage continued at an enormous pace for the first hour or so, but eventually a break of 14 riders started. On the last hill, with around three miles from the finish line, Krists Neilands proved to be the strongest and drove away from his breakaway mates. For a long time it looked like Neilands would take the first Latvian stage win in the Tour de France since 1994, but with three kilometers to go he was caught by a group of five riders. There, Pello Bilbao was the fastest and won the stage, ahead of Georg Zimmermann and Ben O’Connor. The stage win takes Bilbao up from 11th to fifth place in the summary. None of the Norwegian riders or the riders on the Uno-X team were part of the break of 14 riders. The first ten places all went to riders from the break, while there was a sprint in the field for 11th place. It was won by Jasper Stuyven, narrowly ahead of Tobias Halland Johannessen. Johannessen was consequently also the best Norwegian rider on the stage with a 12th place. – It was a bit of a boring day for us. We had no one in the break in the end. When me and Jonas (Abrahamsen) were sitting there, we thought we should try to ask and see. It was just fun, says the Uno-X rider to news.
