May become applicable with reduced consumption for businesses – news Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

There is still a tight power situation in South-West and East Norway, according to Statnett. There is little water in the reservoirs and little snow in the mountains. – It is important that Norway arranges for us to have an energy situation so that we get through the winter, says managing director of Statnett Hilde Tonning at a press conference on Friday. Low chance of rationing The probability of rationing is still low, but reduced consumption for companies may become relevant. According to Statnett, there is up to a 20 percent chance that electricity may be rationed in the spring. Until spring, Statnett recommends the following measures to improve the energy situation and deal with a more strained power situation if it arises: Maintain and further develop the follow-up of the producers to ensure that sufficient water is retained throughout the bottling season. Carry out information campaigns to reduce consumption and introduce concrete measures to reduce consumption within public enterprises. Enter into an agreement to be able to run Equinor’s gas power plant in Nordhordland, Energiverk Mongstad. One of the proposed measures is to activate energy options and/or start production at Energiverk Mongstad if the situation becomes more strained. Can affect industry In a crisis situation where electricity needs to be saved, it may be appropriate to turn to industry that uses a lot of electricity. The state can set up an auction where the industry can bid to disconnect a given number of kilowatts for a period of time. These are called energy options. Whoever has the “lowest” bid can win the auction. Consequences CEO Rodney Ishak of the lye and PVC producer Inovyn in Porsgrunn says that it is far from over to turn off production. We do not want to make money from a critical situation, says Ishak. He says there is a big difference between reducing production and stopping completely. – We understand that we have to contribute, but it is difficult to make a decision at this point, he says.
