On Thursday evening, Gaetz himself writes on the messaging service X that he is withdrawing: – My nomination has become an unfair distraction from the important work on the Trump/Vance transition. There is no time to waste on an unnecessary conflict in Washington, the message says. – And therefore I am withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Minister of Justice. Gaetz has been under investigation for alleged sex trafficking for several years. He resigned as a congressman just days before the Ethics Committee was to release its report on the allegations.
