Mathilde Myhrvold was put out by Therese Johaug’s training pace – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

The temptation of a WC on home soil was too great, and this summer Therese Johaug announced that she was making a comeback. Now the skiing queen is at her first meeting with the national team, and reveals that not all has been lost after a couple of years on the sidelines. – I thought I had become old and tough, but there was actually a bit of gunpowder left in my body, says Johaug at a press conference. And “powder” it was when Johaug trained with the national team friends again. Mathilde Myhrvold was one of those who felt backwards from the pressure of the veteran on the long trips. – I kept running and chatted a bit with her on the first run the other day, but I soon saw that the heart rate was too high. Then I had to pull myself back a little, says Myhrvold to news. GASPING FOR AIR: Mathilde Myhrvold experienced lactic acid during the Tour de Ski during last year’s season. The mouth is perhaps also wide open if one likes to follow Therese Johaug on the long trips. Photo: MATHIAS BERGELD / BILDBYRÅN – I was nervous about how the “Myth” about the training monster Johaug would turn out is almost widely known. She worked over 100 hours in August, which is on par with the numbers she had before she took a career break. The long trips to Johaug are often carried out at a slightly higher pace than what most people are used to – then it is important to leave in time. – Are you afraid that she (Johaug) will drive a dive into the sink? – I don’t fear it, but when she comes back, she will set a standard that, in any case, we are used to her doing before she quit, says Lotta Udnes Weng to news. TRAINING MONSTER: Things are going at a high pace both in training and in competition for Therese Johaug. Here during the NM in athletics in 2019 when she sprinted to victory in the 10,000 metres. Photo: Berit Roald / NTB She says that the national team has become a more homogeneous group, through the two years without the cross-country queen, when it comes to the level of training. After Johaug came in, a new standard has been seen both on the hard sessions and the long rides, believes Udnes Weng. – I was nervous about how it would turn out when she joined the group, if she would break that trend there. But it has worked well, says Udnes Weng and adds: – You know that when she comes to sessions, she sets a standard that is hopefully very good. We would like to point out that Therese Johaug was a cross-country expert for news for the last two seasons. The employment relationship stopped early in the spring of 2024 when she made a comeback as an athlete. Not afraid to go on a rampage, Johaug came to the Mosetertoppen ski stadium after a longer stay in warmer regions where she had training groups together with exercisers commissioned by her own sponsor. – Did your teammates manage to hang on to you on long trips? – Long-distance travel is perhaps my strong point. It is as I say; It’s one thing to have a roller ski interval or a flat stake interval, but it’s another thing to wear a start number on Beitostølen and go skiing. There is no answer whether you are last here or there. We will get an answer when the season starts, says Johaug. Heidi Weng came to the training session a little late and has not yet been able to train with Johaug after the comeback. Weng was teammates with Johaug for many years and knows well how hard the 36-year-old can train. Nevertheless, she is not afraid to go on a rampage if she tries to accompany the rawhide from Dalsbygda on a long trip. – I don’t fear it, but I’ve never done that, says Weng. Lotta Udnes Weng thinks it is important not to have too much respect. – Even if she is the way she is, there is a lot in the rest of us too. We have qualities that can match hers in some areas, it is important that you dare to stand up for who you are, says Udnes Weng. Published 04.10.2024, at 12.32 Updated 04.10.2024, at 15.07
