– It was Martin Bjørnåvold Jakobsen (35), who was found dead at Eidetind on Kjerringøy. Martin grew up in Valnesfjord, and recently lived in Bodø, says police prosecutor Eirik Blomli in a press release. The name is being released by the police in consultation with the family. Jakobsen was on a trip with his partner. Before they reached the top, the roommate turned, still heading for the top. When he did not return during the afternoon, he was reported missing. Civilians, the armed forces, police and the rescue helicopter were involved in the demanding search. – It is a demanding terrain. It is very steep and large boulders, which make it difficult to see everything. We mostly stick to the path, as it is so steep otherwise, said Ole-Christian Wathne in the police when the search was underway. Just after midnight on Wednesday, Martin Bjørnåvold Jakobsen was found dead. This is not the first search operation for the Red Cross in Nordland this summer. The other missions have mostly been people who have stepped on or been unlucky and injured themselves in other ways in the mountains, says Christian Jørgen Rasmussen, about the council leader for the Salten Red Cross. – But it has been a fairly normal summer so far. Rasmussen himself was involved in the search for Martin Bjørnåvold Jakobsen on Tuesday. The Red Cross leader encourages people to take precautions when going on a trip. – We want people to use nature, but advise everyone to bring a small bag with food, water and some extra clothes. Feel free to bring your mobile phone as well. It can be of great help when we need to find someone, says Rasmussen. Published 18.07.2024, at 13.37 Updated 18.07.2024, at 13.51
