The Froland express has taken its last shots as a biathlete. The shots and the race were a big boost for Røiseland, who took second place in Holmenkollen. – I am just so happy with the race I completed today. It’s not always just victories that matter, but today I felt that I really fought back, says Røiseland to news. COULD CHEER: Marte Olsbu Røiseland. Photo: Javad Parsa / NTB – I am so impressed. It says something about Marte that she is able to crown the feat and show why she has been the world’s best biathlete, says teammate Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold. Røiseland looked tired in her very last race, but was cheered to the finish line with massive support from her loved ones and the rest of the Kollen audience. After the finish line, she was welcomed by her teammates, who had dressed in T-shirts for the occasion. Then we took the liberty of borrowing some pictures from the Norwegian royal house. We think they deserved it, says Tandrevold, who was behind the invention. – It was very surprising. I was so touched that so many of them had turned up to celebrate. It’s a group I’m going to miss a lot. I can’t wait to watch them from the sidelines, says Røiseland after the surprise. CELEBRATION: Family and friends celebrated the end of Marte Olsbu Røiseland. Photo: Hanne Skjellum / news Eckhoff: – I’m enjoying myself Røiseland is among Norway’s most successful in the sport and takes home three Olympic golds and 13 World Championship golds. In total, there were 38 victories in the World Cup. – I promised that I would go out there today and make a show. I don’t know if anyone saw it, as it was so foggy, but I caught it. It wasn’t quite Thingnes Bø style, but I felt I did what I could today, says a delighted Røiseland. EMOTIONAL: Marte Olsbu Røiseland’s career as a biathlete is over. Photo: Rodrigo Freitas / NTB Team Olsbu was ready to cheer on its great favorite one last time. Father Kjetil Bjørn Olsbu had put on the T-shirt he wore in his daughter’s first World Cup race in 2012. – It was completely raw. I was very excited about whether she would be able to stay focused on shooting after all the steering ahead. She was heavy in the track, but this was gold, says father Olsbu. – It is absolutely unbelievable! She deserves this so much, to have such an ending, says an emotional mother Helga Olsbu to news. Eckhoff, who is therefore also giving up, has not taken part in this year’s season after a troubled year, but was present as a spectator in Holmenkollen. – I enjoy watching biathlon from the stands. I only get to make use of it when I’m standing here on the stand, Eckhoff told news during the race. – Looks tired For Røiseland, it was a dream start to her last race, after a full house on the first prone shooting. Tandrevold is considered the one who will take over the baton from Røiseland and Eckhoff, and delivered just as many hits. – They are doing quite well today. It’s lovely to see that they are on the cutting edge, said Eckhoff after the first shooting. PÅSKRUDD: Marte Olsbu Røiseland in her last race. Photo: Javad Parsa / NTB In the second shooting, the two shot the same once again, but unfortunately from Norwegian eyes there was one miss for both. The profiles Julia Simon and Hanna Öberg shot a full house and got a big hatch. Swedish Öberg continued the dot-free shooting on his third shooting, while Simon had to go out in two penalty rounds. Røiseland delivered fully and was back in the race for the podium. But: – Now she looks tired, said news commentator Andreas Stabrun Smith. Burst in tears But Røiseland showed the commentators and the whole of Norway what a raw biathlete she is. On the fourth and last shooting, she nailed all the flashes, while the competitors missed. Hanna Öberg got a small gap, but Røiseland was only 15.9 seconds behind in second place. – What a dream ending to a dream career. Oh, don’t wake me. I will have this dream for the rest of the afternoon and evening. She crushes all opponents on the stand, said Stabrun Smith. GAVE THE LAST SHE HAD: The Froland Express. Photo: Javad Parsa / NTB Öberg was superb at the finish line, while just behind came a Norwegian biathlon queen who really had to dig in the cellar. With a tenacious and powerful hold, she went into second place in her very last race. – I knew that I had been in better shape before. After all the management lately, I felt that my body was screaming for a break. But then I manage to mobilize just enough to keep up with the field. Then the last standing series became decisive. Then I get just enough good luck to save second place, says Røiseland. When news asked how she envisioned the evening, the tears came. – It will be moving and strange. Oh, I didn’t think I’d be moved already, but it’s going to be special to finish with this bunch here. But it will be really nice and I’m looking forward to it, says the biathlon queen. French Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet took the last podium place. Fog problem There was a slight uncertainty about the biathlon races in Holmenkollen on Sunday, after the morning offered dense fog and light rain. POOR VISIBILITY: The jury checks the conditions before the last day in Holmenkollen. Photo: Hanne Skjellum / news The jury wanted to have a meeting an hour before the men’s race to assess the conditions during the deposit. There it was decided that the chutes went as planned. There has been fog in Holmenkollen all day, which has also been a problem for parts of the Holmenkollen weekend. On Friday, the women’s sprint was canceled due to poor visibility. But it was a nice end to the Kollen weekend and the biathlon season on Sunday.
