18 January 2023 at 02:01 Maria Ressa acquitted of tax evasion Journalist Maria Ressa has been acquitted in a case of tax evasion in the Philippines, reports the AFP news agency. In 2021, Ressa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize together with the Russian editor Dmitrij Muratov. At least seven cases have been brought against Ressa in which she has to fight accusations of everything from tax evasion to violations of the law on foreign financing. According to AFP, Ressa says that the charges are intended to stop journalists from doing their jobs.
