Two years ago, the boom called it quits for Maren Lundby. After the World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf, her body would no longer cooperate. The weight went up quickly. She could not figure out the problem, and took a break from show jumping. – It was a very special case where I quickly gained weight in a short time, says Lundby. Now, two years later, she has made a comeback and won WC silver in Planica. Now she knows that she is in a different place physically. – The biggest difference I know is that things work more as normal now. It indicates that I have done things right during the winter. Apart from that, I feel in good shape, she says. Unsure The jumping queen from Østre Toten still knows that she has a job to do before she is at the weight she needs to be to become the best ski jumper in the world again. – That job is a process that I am still not sure if I will be able to solve optimally or if it will be halfway, but I have a better starting point this year than last year, says Lundby. – I know what is required, but I am not sure if it is possible to get down to the weight I need to perform optimally for an entire season. SILVER: Although Lundby took silver at the WC in Planica this winter, she did not feel in top form. Now she trains in a non-traditional way to get in the best shape, and feels herself that she has a better starting point now. In the months before the WC, there was a lot of endurance training, and miles of ski trips to get in shape. – For me, it is something that may have been necessary to keep energy consumption up, and to have good health and well-being at a lower weight. Comeback on the football field Lundby has taken several non-traditional paths to try to find top form. Two years ago she tried out dancing when she took part in the entertainment program Skal vi danse. This year she is trying something new again. This season she has made a comeback with football boots on her feet for Kolbu KK in the 5th division. – Football is fun, it’s also nice to break up a bit and train in a group. You get some free exercise by running after a ball. It’s something I think is much more fun than just running. It’s a great way to keep going, she says. She is technically good, willing to run, strong in duels and good to have in the middle, says Caroline Nerseth Prøven. TEAM FRIENDS: Caroline Nerseth Prøven and Ragnhild Olstad say that Maren Lundby contributed both energy, mood and a little extra push to the 5th division team. However, she is aware that the road there is still long. – Based on how things go physically and with the body throughout the summer, and that I get things to work optimally, I have a goal of winning the World Cup overall. – But I am open to the fact that it is not certain that I will succeed, because I know how difficult it is, she says. DREAM: Maren Lundby was going to be a soccer player when she was younger, but then jumping came and took her. Now she has found the football boot again. Photo: Anders Bakkerud Larsen / news Another goal she has set herself is to fly far in Vikersund, and to set a world record for women. In March, it became clear that Vikersund will have two world cup races in women’s ski flying. It is something that Lundby and the other show jumping women have been calling for for several years. – It’s great that we have two World Cup races in ski flying. “Bånne” Vikersund, it would have been completely rotten, says Lundby.
