– It’s a bit surreal in a way. That one will soon travel to a world championship when one has not been in the vicinity of the former, Jacob Boutera admits. He took the World Cup requirement of the 3000 meter hurdles in a vote in Finland in June, with a time of 8.21.69. He has since made his home in Aurskog and in Berkeley, California. news met him during a wet training session on local forest trails before leaving for the World Cup in the USA. Your road has ours both short and long at the same time. – There are many good reasons to give up here, and he has not done so, but all the time had hoped. It is a very good achievement to achieve what he has managed, says news commentator Jann Post. PREPARATIONS: On this road, Jacob Boutera has put in a number of training hours in the last year. Photo: Hanne Skjellum / news The 26-year-old did not start running until he moved to Bergen after high school to start studying law. Now he will soon finish his education, but the relatively short running experience is not the only thing that makes the championship place impressive. This is only the second season Boutera is focusing on the exercise, because it was actually 1500 meters he specialized in. – It was a bit just to get to the championship, since we have had a family of 1500 meters it has been difficult to excel, he says and aims for the Ingebrigtsen brothers. Chronic illness Thus, he changed his mind, but last year’s season ended with a breach of confidence, and before Christmas he struggled with an Achilles’ heel. But perhaps the most challenging; he must also specially adapt the training because he has the chronic disease ulcerative colitis – an inflammation that affects the rectum. – It has affected me significantly more in the year that has been, so it has also meant that some weeks have warts very different in terms of training. I have had to adjust based on how the disease picture has been and there are some challenges around the right medication, so we have to get in and out of hospitals to get the best possible control of the disease, he says honestly. AT HOME: After he moved back from Bergen, when law school took a corona break, Boutera has stayed at his mother’s house in Aurskog. This has meant that he has not been able to train as much as he would have liked to have done in periods. In recent months, things have improved, and he has also learned to adapt. The focus is rarely on what he is not allowed to do, because the Ull / Kisa runner knows that he must listen to his body. – I have tried to just drive on without adjusting so much, and it has not necessarily worked any better. I rather have to make the best of the situation at any given time, even though one can get a little frustrated and irritated when the body is not always known as a top athlete, he explains. – Stresses the body Boutera does not know so many other top athletes with the disease, but knows he himself, with close and good follow-up, makes it work quite well – at least no. – It has been in periods. Around Christmas and this autumn it was quite demanding, but after I start on new medicine after Christmas, I feel that the weeks have looked much more like I want to, tell the obstacle runner. – What kind of advice do you get as a top athlete from a medical standpoint? – Those who help me have a great understanding that I want to keep up with sports, and stress the body in a way that may not necessarily be very good to just think about having the best possible time with the disease. It is also one of the reasons why he is now open about the disease. Feedback that he inspires, he also appreciated – I think it’s nice that one can see that there are different paths and approaches, and one does not necessarily have to start running when one is 10 years old. Even though it works very well for someone, maybe my story is a little more random and untraditional, says Boutera. – An exemplary news commentator Post pays tribute to the athlete. – I think he is a role model for others who struggle a little. Boutera shows that it is possible to combine top sports at this level with the disease, which can contribute to giving others a quality of life as well. It is very good and tough to talk about, says Post. BECOMES SHELF: news’s commentator Jann Post is very impressed with what Jacob Boutera has achieved. Photo: William Jobling / news The attempt at a 3000 meter obstacle in Eugene takes place on Saturday night Norwegian time. Boutera wants to be realistic in the World Cup, and knows that a final place will be tough to capture. – One can be lucky and do a great race and surprise, but it’s not like I’m really disappointed if I travel from there without having reached the final without the World Cup. But later in August, the European Championships are also waiting in Munich, so there is a new World Cup before the Olympics in Paris 2024. The ambitions are great there as well. – I think I have a lot to go on, especially with the amount of training I do, which is quite modest. I know I have to step up a bit if I am to take steps in the future. When the body is ready for it, I look forward to exercising more, he assures.
