Evaluation of the New Venue
The Football Commission of the Peruvian team recently visited the city of Puno to assess the National University of the Altiplano stadium. This evaluation is part of their strategy to potentially transfer the national team’s home ground in preparation for the CONMEBOL 2030 Qualifiers.
Key Personnel Involved
The delegation, which garnered attention from local media, included head coach Mano Menezes and Jean Ferrari, who is spearheading efforts to relocate the national team’s base. Their focus is to leverage the altitude for competitive advantage during matches.
Strategic Importance of Altitude
This strategic shift, approved by the FPF Board of Directors, aims to maximize resources and enhance home game performance through altitude advantages. Menezes expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are happy to be here. Let’s work so that everything goes well.” The change is crucial for gaining more points as home players in the qualifiers.
Preparations and Commitments
In response to the official delegation’s visit, Paulino Machaca, the rector of the National University of Puno, expressed confidence that their facilities are ready for the national team. He emphasized, “We have made the Monumental UNA available for the Peruvian team. We are providing all the facilities, and let’s hope that the field is chosen to support Peruvian soccer.”
Stadium Checks and Compliance
During the official visit, key components such as the stadium grass, dressing rooms, press room, and conference hall were evaluated. Both Menezes and Ferrari approved these key areas, which meets the standards set by the CONMEBOL.
Future Endeavors
With this strategic initiative, the FPF aims to enhance the national team’s performance by capitalizing on the geographical advantage of altitude. There are also plans to evaluate other stadiums beyond the UNA Monumental, such as options in Fist and Juliaca, to find the most advantageous location for future qualifiers.
