On 8 November 2023, a man in his 20s stabbed two parrots he was looking after in an apartment on Mysen. The man killed the birds with an ordinary kitchen knife from Ikea. Three hours later, the man threatened a van, before driving onto a field in Askim. When the police arrived at the scene, they were unable to make contact with him. Finally, the police shot the man in the thigh, causing him to throw the knife away. The man claimed that he threw the knife as a reflex action. The police believe he threw the knife with great force at them. Therefore, he was also shot in the other thigh. The man has been sentenced in Follo and Nordre Østfold District Court to two years and three months in prison for aggravated robbery, threats to the police and breach of the Animal Protection Act. The police submitted a request for a somewhat stricter sentence of three years. – We note that the district court has followed us with regard to the question of guilt for all the records. The District Court has assessed the sentencing slightly differently. It seems that the confession has been emphasized a little differently, says prosecuting attorney Sara Westgaard Torgersen to news. VG mentioned the verdict first. The Bureau has investigated the police’s handling of the situation, but no decision has been made in the matter. The district court believes that it has not been proven that the knife was thrown at the police. – He has been convicted for threatening with a knife, but not for throwing the knife at the police, states Torgersen. The man’s defender Vegard Lien tells news that he will not comment on the case at the request of his client. In the judgment, it appears that the convicted person himself called the police after the bird killings. He then stated that a neighbor had killed two birds. The police did not intervene. The Bureau of Police Affairs has investigated whether the police did anything criminal when the man in his 20s was shot. According to VG, the case has been forwarded to the head of the Bureau for further processing and decision on prosecution. Crime technicians worked on the land in Askim after the incident. The car driver was hit in the face, lost his balance and fell backwards. He was then threatened with a knife to hand over the car keys, the verdict states. – The victim was almost terrified as he lay while the defendant stood over him and waved a knife with blood on it, said defense lawyer Thor Anders Smith Hoen in his proceedings. The legal aid attorney does not want to comment on the judgment against news on Monday. Previous conviction The convicted man is in his early 20s and has previously been convicted several times. In 2022, he was sentenced to two years in prison for serious violence and threats. The verdict states that the man in his 20s followed a random man and his two-year-old son home to their home. Outside the residence, he asked the father to get him a car, and lifted the child up so that he began to cry. Only after 30 seconds did he let go of the child, because he realized he wasn’t going to get hold of any car, according to the previous verdict. It is not known whether any of the parties will appeal the verdict. Published 24.06.2024, at 19.27
