The man in his 70s and a friend of the same age were to shovel the roof of the cabin at Spåtind in Nord-Torpa. One was up on the roof, while the other was down on the ground. – Then the masses of snow came loose on the roof and then buried the person who was standing on the ground. That’s what operations manager at the police in Innlandet, Frode Øvreås, says. The man lay under the masses of snow for around 15 minutes, before his friend and people from the emergency services dug him out. He was tried to be revived by ambulance and health personnel, and the fire service also assisted. – But he was confirmed dead after a short time, says operations manager Øvreås. Tragic accident It was the owner of the cabin who died. The relatives and the friend, who were with the man at the cabin and witnessed the incident, are receiving assistance from a crisis team. Both men are from out of town in their 70s. The police describe the incident as a tragic accident. – There is no suspicion of anything suspicious here. A case will be opened, but it will be defined as a tragic accident, says operations manager Øvreås. The deceased must be autopsied. The police were notified of the accident by AMK just before 1pm on Thursday. Personnel from both the ambulance, air ambulance, fire and police worked together at the scene after the accident. Warning The police warn of the danger of laces falling from the roof of both cabins and private houses. They ask people to be careful when mowing the roofs, regardless of whether it is professional or private operators who do it. – It is tragic, but we also have to inform people so that such things do not happen. There are a lot of roofs all around that are characterized by a lot of wet snow now, says operations manager Frode Øvreås.
