– We were notified of the incident just after 01:00 on Saturday night and arrested a man shortly afterwards. That’s what the head of the police, Jan Tore Sunde, told news. Sunde says that the rape must have happened inside the tent area of the Malakoff festival. A festival in Nordfjordeid in Western Norway, which runs from Friday 19 July to and including Saturday 20 July. The festival has over 10,000 spectators. Charged with rape – We have charged the man with the rape of a woman in her 20s, and have started an investigation, says task leader Sunde. – Do the victim and the accused know each other? – I cannot say anything about that at the present time. According to what I know, the man was to be questioned today, says Sunde. The task leader says that two witnesses have so far been questioned. The offended woman has also given a statement to the police. – Are you taking any measures in relation to security at the festival? – We have control over the person who is suspected of the act, so there is no reason for the public to worry.
