15 September 2023 at 06:08 Major strike in the car industry in the USA At 6 o’clock on Friday morning Norwegian time, workers at three car factories in the USA went on strike after the UAW union failed to reach an agreement with the car manufacturers. The United Auto Workers (UAW) announced a couple of hours before the deadline for strike action at factories in the states of Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. – The money is there. Our fight is fair, says UAW leader Shawn Fain in a statement. The three Detroit-based car factories that still have unions are Ford, General Motors (GM) and Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler). Ford tells Reuters that the labor side made a new counteroffer late Thursday, but that there is little movement in the negotiations. The workers demand that the revived car industry give back benefits they have given up in order to save the workplace. (NTB)
