3 November 2023 at 22:37 Djokovic won after a strong fight by Rune Danske Holger Rune had to lose to world number one Novak Djokovic in the hunt for the semi-finals of the Paris Masters. Djokovic won 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 in a very even match. Thus, Djokovic got revenge after Rune beat him in last year’s final in the Paris tournament. In the first set, they followed each other to 5-5 before world number one Djokovic went up to 6-5 and then broke the Dane’s serve. On the eve of the second set, the temperature was high when Djokovic felt he was unfairly treated. Rune challenged the referee’s decision on one stroke, but Djokovic thought the challenge came too late after the Dane had hit the ball himself in the next stroke. Djokovic argued with the referee for a few minutes before continuing to play. After the Serb abused a match point, the set went to a tiebreak. There, Rune showed high class and outplayed the opponent. Thus the match had to be decided in a third and decisive set. There, Djokovic got an early break and then served out the win. Rune had the statistics on his side ahead of the meeting with Djokovic on Friday. The Dane had two wins and one loss in previous duels and last beat Djokovic in the Masters tournament in Rome this year. Djokovic will face either Alex de Minaur or Andrej Rublev in the semi-finals. The two will play for the last semi-final place later on Friday. Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas meet in the other semi-final.
