Lost control when she was going to burn down an old outbuilding – news Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

– It went very quickly. I know that it is not completely within the legislation, but I just had to…, says Kari Tisjø. The outhouse was small, dilapidated and was to be demolished, she says. That’s why she planned a controlled burn on Saturday. – It took a while before it caught fire. We sat down to have a barbecue, and the weather was beautiful and the wind calm, she says. Both the outbuilding and the main house burned to the ground on Saturday. Photo: PRIVAT But within minutes the fire got out of control and spread to the main house. Tisjø had to call the fire brigade and ask for help. Both the outbuilding and the main house, which were also to be demolished, burned to the ground. The main house is located near county road 38, and the fire led to the road being closed for several hours on Saturday. – We were a bit stressed here for a while. I lie completely flat, she says. It was TA who first mentioned the matter. Kragerø and Drangedal emptied of fire crews The fire caused both Kragerø and Drangedal to be emptied of fire resources for a short time, says deputy commander at southeast 110, Kenneth Brenden. – After a short time they staffed the station in Kragerø, but there is a time in between where the station was unmanned, and it is very unfortunate if others need help, he says. Burns must be approved by the fire service, Brenden points out. – It is unfortunate to set fire to buildings without permission being granted, says Kenneth Brenden. Also in view of the environmental problem, it should preferably not be burned at all, he points out. Not homeless after the fire Tisjø lives in a house on the neighboring plot. That is why she is not homeless after the fire. She did not have permission to burn down, but says that she has previously asked the fire service if they could burn the buildings in connection with a fire drill. As this was only possible in May or June, she took matters into her own hands and thought that it was in with the little bow. – I didn’t think it would catch fire. It was very stupid, she says. Now she is prepared for a fine. – I had a budget for this to be demolished in the normal way. But I expect that I will receive a punishment for this, and I will take it, she says. She emphasizes that she had not insured the buildings because they were to be demolished. Can expect a fine The police have opened a case after the fire. – It shows how things can go. For that reason, a case has been opened into the matter, says Erik Ulhaug Olsen, operations manager in the South-East police district. You should notify the fire service, and not start on your own initiative, points out the operations manager. The consequence of this will soon be a fine, says Olsen. How much, he doesn’t know. – It is not very often that we sit with those matters here. It is a rare case, so I dare not speculate on it, he says.
