– My sisters are completely out of their minds. They think it is very unfair, says Presilya. She is the older sister of three teenagers aged 16, 17 and 19 who met Lillesand municipality in Agder district court last week. The three sisters and their mother sued the municipality for not providing the girls with a safe school environment. The district court believes that Lillesand municipality has no obligation to compensate the sisters. It was Lillesands-Posten that mentioned the case first. Presilya says that the sisters take the decision seriously. The two youngest were at her home on Thursday evening when they received word from the lawyer about the sentence. – They are very hurt. There have been a lot of tears, says Presilya to news. Depression and PTSD The court concluded with an acquittal in the claim for future loss of income for all three sisters. For the oldest of them, they also concluded with an acquittal in the claim for compensation. For the two youngest, there was disagreement among the members of the court when it came to compensation. Experts have assessed that the eldest of the sisters has a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a degree of disability of 34 per cent. The two youngest sisters both have severe depression and a degree of disability of 54 per cent, according to experts. The sisters demanded up to NOK 90,000 for a small loss. Other compensation was to be determined at the court’s discretion. Before, I wanted to become a lawyer or study political science. Now I have lost hope, said the 17-year-old. Will appeal the case A year and a half ago, the State Administrator in Agder determined that Lillesand secondary school had not done enough to ensure a safe school environment for the daughters. Presilya finds it strange that the municipality is acquitted with this as a backdrop. – We simply do not understand this, she says. The elder sister is aware that the family will now appeal. – We do not give up. What signals does this send to others who experience the same? We want justice, she says. It was Presilya who put the spotlight on the case two years ago.
