Many young people were present during the last day of the trial after 18-year-old Lena Maria Aase died in a car accident in Valestrandvegen on Osterøy last year. A depressed mood testified to an event that has both shaped and divided the local community. The prosecutor asked for one year in prison for the 19-year-old best friend of the deceased. The woman was charged with negligently causing the death of another. When the trial began this week, she pleaded not guilty. – Was not negligent – She has not admitted any degree of guilt, although it is obvious that she has taken a deliberate risk. It is gross negligence, said prosecutor Rune Malt, who also asked that the defendant be stripped of his driving license for four years. Defense attorney Kjetil Ottesen, for his part, asked that the 19-year-old be acquitted, alternatively that she be sentenced in the most lenient manner. He emphasized the defendant’s explanation that she lost control of the car because an animal got in the way. – When the reason is that she snorts, she is not negligent. She must be acquitted of this. She hopes that those who have followed the trial may gain a slightly broader insight into what has happened, and the reason why she formally does not plead guilty even though she feels a moral responsibility for what has happened. The defendant’s psychologist also explained himself, emphasizing that the 19-year-old has lost many friends after the incident. She also described that the defendant meets the criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder, and that she is now on antidepressants. Oncoming motorists reacted to their speed. During the proceedings, the prosecutor produced witness descriptions of the defendant’s driving. A witness who was overtaken by the defendant described that the defendant’s car was almost involved in an accident shortly before the accident. – A great burden that she does not plead guilty The father of the accused 19-year-old told about the night of the accident, and described a daughter in shock when he first spoke to her on the phone. – She continued to repeat that it was an animal that had got in the way. The father of the late Lena Maria Aase told, choking back tears, about the great loss of his daughter. – We find it a great burden that the defendant does not acknowledge the actual circumstances and plead guilty. Had the speed not been so high, the accident would not have had the tragic outcome. Assistance lawyer Cecilie Wallevik submitted a claim that the defendant should cover the costs of the burial, as well as pay compensation to the bereaved.
