The emergency services have responded to a gas alarm on Herøya in Porsgrunn. No one was injured, the police said. There has been an unforeseen stoppage in one of Yara’s nitric acid plants, but it is unknown how much. Operations manager Marianne Mørch states that the situation is under control just after half past two. – The factory has been able to stop the emissions, and the measurements indicate that there is nothing dangerous anymore. The public was asked to stay inside for safety and nearby roads were closed. All the roadblocks have now been lifted and there is no danger to the surroundings. The roads were closed for a while due to the wind, according to the operations manager. – They are waiting to open the roads until they check the weather, considering that the gases can be knocked down again with the rain. Mørch says that the Industrial Protection Agency is working on site, and the police, health and fire services are on site if assistance is needed. Gas measurements have been carried out outside the industrial park. No health-damaging values have been measured. There are still gas meters and observers for measurements outside at 1.40pm. The fire brigade blocked the road. Photo: Richard Aune / news Published 22.07.2024, at 13.16 Updated 22.07.2024, at 13.41
