Large stones block a popular tourist road in Sogn – news Vestland

The rockfall has taken place about one kilometer north of the Storehaug tunnel on the Vik side of the mountain on national road 13. The western police district reports that no one has been taken by the landslide. The police and contractor are in town, emptying the mountain of cars. When the rock is emptied, the barrier at Storesvingen on the Vik side and the barrier at the Storehaug tunnel on the Voss side will be closed. The mountain pass is a popular tourist route between Vik municipality and Voss herad. – There have been three relatively large stones of about 500 kg left, says Kjetil Gjøen, police officer in the city. Before the largest stones had come down into the roadway, several motorists had begun to clear the roadway of smaller stones. The police point out that people who come first to landslide towns must not do so, as there can always be more stone. JAGA VOLUNTEERS: Police officer Kjetil Gjøen confirms that volunteers had started clearing the road for smaller stones before the largest stones came down the roadway: – They probably did not see the danger potential in it, so we quickly got them out of the way, he says. The police will not open the road until a geologist has assessed the area. This may take several hours. Christer Eide, traffic operator at Vegtrafikksentralen, tells news at 16:10 that they have not yet got hold of a geologist. In the meantime, travelers on the stretch between Vik and Voss must drive via Lærdal. This detour takes about four hours and includes two ferry rides. LONG QUEUES: On both sides of the landslide there are now long queues. Photo: Noralv Pedersen / news
