– It was quite by chance that we went on that trip, says 19-year-old Elias Windjusveen Olsen from Hamar. On Thursday, he and his girlfriend Emma Louise Johansen were to go on the mountain tour Bjørnhollia. In the parking lot at Straumbu in Folldal, they saw a dog lying next to a mobile home. – We didn’t really think anything of it. We thought the owner was in there, and that the dog was being aired. On Thursday, the couple Emma Louise Johansen (18) and Elias Windjusveen Olsen (19) went on the trip to Bjørnhollia in Folldal, but there were several alternatives. Since they were walking, they discovered the dog lying cold and alone. Photo: Privat Ostlendingen mentioned the story of the two first. When they returned from the five-hour mountain trip, the dog was still lying by the camper. – There was no one else there. No one who came, no one when we left and no trace. Based on the registration number of the mobile home, they found the phone number of the owner, and tried to get hold of him several times, without success. They took the dog with them and notified the police. Emma Louise Johansen (18) and Elias Windjusveen Olsen (19) were at the cabin, and chose to go for the walk, which is approximately an hour away. There they discovered the dog. Photo: Kristina Viktoria Løvsletten Hellem-Hansen / news The couple bought dog food and posted on a page that they were looking for the owner. A lady contacted them and told them that she had observed the dog alone a couple of days before. – We think a lot about the man. We are of course happy that the dog is alive, but we think about him a lot, said Olsen on Saturday afternoon. The police helicopter has been in the air and helped with the search for the missing man. Photo: Geir Olav Slåen / news 18-year-old Emma Louise Johansen from Elverum hopes the man will be found. – I think it is very good that they have launched a search operation. We thought it was only the dog that was missing, it also turns out that there is a man who is missing. It is luck that we saw the dog, she said on Saturday afternoon. The dog that was lying by the mobile home has been taken care of by family members. Many people have searched – campaign ends On Saturday, up to 40 people searched for the man in the area around the Straumbu rest area where the man had parked the motorhome. At 8pm on Saturday, the police report that the search operation to find anyone alive in the search area has ended. – We have made an assessment together with medical expertise. We no longer consider that there is hope that he has managed to survive beyond the timeline we are talking about, which is for three days with the weather conditions that have been in the search areas, says operations manager Bård Einar Hoft to news. Next of kin are notified of the decision. Local police will follow the missing persons case and they want tips. The police have started the search for the man from the mobile home which is parked at the rest area at Straumbu in Folldal. Photo: Geir Olav Slåen / news – It is difficult search terrain. There is both a lot of water here, rivers, hills, gorges and dense forest, police task leader Hans Petter Eidsvåg told news earlier today. They had little to go on to know where to look, and they would like to hear from people who may have seen the man. – Observations were made of the man’s dog on the west side here on Wednesday. So it’s a natural place to focus. Operations leader in the police Hans Petter Eidsvåg Photo: Geir Olav Slåen / news Unsure how long he has been missing The police informed news earlier today that they could not get in touch with the owner of the dog when they tried to call him. Nor had family members spoken to him. It is uncertain how long the man has been gone, since those closest to the family have not known when he went out for a walk, nor where he was going. But the last electronic trace from the mobile phone was on 24 October. The man is not from Folldal, but from another place in Innlandet. Between 30 and 40 people participate in the search for the man in Folldal. Photo: Geir Olav Slåen / news Bad weather The search operation was called off on Friday because there was strong wind and snow in the mountain areas. – We have now found ourselves having to end the search for the evening due to the weather conditions and the safety of the search crews, the police said on Friday evening. On Saturday, the weather was better and large forces restarted the search operation for the 68-year-old. In addition to search crews from the police, Norwegian People’s Aid, the Red Cross and Norwegian rescue dogs, there were several drones in the air to search for the man. Task leader Hans Petter Eidsvåg also said that they received support from a police helicopter in the search for the man. The search crews do not know which way the man went when he went for a walk.
