Large amounts of rain expected in the north – several danger warnings out – news Troms and Finnmark

The precipitation comes as a result of a low pressure coming in from the east. On holiday in Piteå in Sweden, Per Kristian Johansen Hasselberg and his family got a taste of what meets Troms and Finnmark. – It rained a little drizzle to begin with, but then it came almost cannonballs with torrential rain on our caravan. The water meter floated away, but I would estimate 5-6 millimeters of precipitation per hour. According to Johansen Hasselberg, who usually lives in Kikenes, it rained for one and a half to two hours in addition to the thunder. – It thundered violently. It lasted up to a minute one of Tor’s hammer blows with the hammer, he says. Per Kristian Johansen Hasselberg’s caravan experienced large amounts of precipitation on holiday in Piteå in Sweden. The meteorologist on duty, Ingvild Villa, says that they expect around 40-60 millimeters of precipitation for Troms and divide Western Finnmark. In addition, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a warning for too much lightning for parts of western Finnmark and the Finnmark plateau. – During the night it goes over to front precipitation. The sum of this for the Finnmark plateau and parts of western Finnmark is large amounts of precipitation over a twelve-hour period, she says. The meteorologist on duty says that people should follow the directions and varsom.no, and that it may be a good idea to take some measures before the precipitation arrives. – If you have a basement that is a little badly located, then you may want to take some measures, she says. From tonight until Friday morning, a lot of rain is expected, locally 30-60 millimeters in 12 hours. Field hydrologist at NVE, Siri Ane Hestad, says the large amount of precipitation gives an increased probability of landslides and avalanches. – The risk of landslides and floods is a consequence of the combination between water saturation in the ground and expected precipitation, she says. Hestad says that exposed stretches of road can be closed and asks people to be vigilant. – It is always a good idea to keep gutters and troughs open. Waterways must be free of twigs and loose masses so that the water can flow well and get away so that water pressure does not build up, she says. Hestad says this weather situation is normal in the country as a whole, but that it is not common in Finnmark, especially with such intense rain. Photo: NVE
