Large amounts of ammunition detected in Mjøsa – news Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

From 1940 until 1970, ammunition was dumped from Raufoss and the Norwegian Armed Forces in Mjøsa. In the past, it was believed that between 100 and 200 tons were dumped in total, mainly ammunition for small arms. Now the Norwegian Defense Research Institute (FFI) has demonstrated that far more ammunition has been dumped in the largest lake in Norway than previously thought. – We have sources who say that 30 tonnes could be dumped in one day. This traffic went on for many years. Our findings build on the fact that the quantity is far above what has been said, says chief researcher Arnt Johnsen at FFI in a press release. There may be 10 to 20 times more ammunition in Mjøsa than previously thought.
