21 February 2024 at 13:41 Cycling: O’Connor won – Foss fell in the summary in the UAE Tour Australian Ben O’Connor won the 3rd stage in the UAE Tour cycling race. Tobias Foss finished 20 seconds behind the winner at the finish line up on the mountain Jebel Jais. The 3rd stage of the world tour was 176 kilometers long and went from Al Marjan to Jebel Jais. It ended with a continuous climb of around 30 kilometers up the mountain Jebel Jais. The summit is 1489 meters above sea level. It was still only an average increase of a tidy 5.6 per cent. Ineos rider Tobias Foss sat far ahead in the field along the way, but it did not quite last for the cyclist from Vingrom when O’Connor picked up the pace towards the end. UAE rider Jay Vine took second place and took over the overall lead. He is eleven seconds ahead of compatriot O’Connor. Foss fell from fourth place to seventh place in the summary. That separates 33 seconds up to leading Vine. Torstein Træen (Bahrain-Victorious) was also in the final, but he too had to drop a few seconds at the end. Vegard Stake Laengen was, as usual, pacesetter for the UAE team, but relaxed towards the end. (NTB)
