King Harald is hospitalized – news Norway – Overview of news from various parts of the country

The king has been diagnosed with an infection that needs to be treated, and he will therefore be in hospital for a few days. The condition is stable, says the Royal Palace. The king was supposed to take part in the commemoration of the liberation day and the national veterans’ day at Akershus fortress this afternoon together with crown prince Haakon, but had to cancel it. The Crown Prince attended as planned. King Harald is scheduled to receive Italian President Sergio Mattarella on a state visit to Norway later this week. Got an artificial heart valve The king, who is now 86 years old, has been in and out of hospital a lot in recent years. He was last discharged from Rikshospitalet at the end of December last year, also then with an infection. In October 2020, he underwent an operation to replace a heart valve. It was in 2005 that the king had an artificial heart valve inserted for the first time. Such heart valves have a lifespan of between 10 and 15 years, and there is therefore nothing unusual in such a one having to be replaced after some time. In December 2003, King Harald was diagnosed with bladder cancer. On 8 December of the same year, the cancerous tumor was removed in what the doctors characterized as a very successful operation.
