With big favorite Jørn Eggum out of the dance, the Lo Nomination Committee has to work on blast to find a new leadership candidate for one of the most important positions in Norwegian politics and social life. The election will be done already on Thursday next week. Two names are highlighted to news as relevant after Kine Asper Vistnes now resigns: Federation leader Frode Alfheim in the industrial -heavy association strength. His federal colleague and LO Secretary Are Tomasgard. Why is LO important? What is LO? LO is an abbreviation for the national organization. It is an employee organization. This means that there is a place that people who work can organize together to stand stronger to employers. Where many members have LO? LO themselves state that they have over a million members. The members are divided into 23 unions, depending on what they are working on. The clearest union is by far the union. It has members who work with health and many tasks within the municipalities. What does LO do? The most important thing is that they negotiate wages on behalf of those who work. Either the entire LO or the various unions individually.LO also fights for workers’ rights in a number of areas. Among the most well -known areas are sick pay, working hours and the right to permanent work. Is it only LO that represents the workers? No. There are several others. The largest are Unio, YS and the Academics. They have around 850,000 members combined. Since LO is the largest, it is often those who are most heard. It is also LO who negotiates what is called the front subjects. The result there is most often what others also get in wage increases. Is important in politics? LO has over 100 years stood close to the Labor Party (Ap). The leader of LO always sits on Aps powerful central board. The leader also leads to chair the nomination committee when the AP is to choose new leaders. LO also gives many millions of NOK to Ap, especially in elections. This year, the LO management has proposed to provide NOK 20 million in support to Aps election campaign. El and IT want Alfheim – when Jørn Eggum retires, I think Frode Alfheim is a good candidate. This is what the EL and IT association leader Geir Ove Kulseth told the news association organizes over 43,000 employees in the telecommunications industry, the energy supply, the electrical industry and the IT industry. Now they want Frode Alfheim as leader – Alfheim has political experience and experience as leader in LO. The union he leader has close contact with the industry, and it is important. That’s what Geir Ove Kulseth told news on Wednesday. Frode Alfheim is from Dønna in Nordland. He has long experience as a union representative in LO. He has been a federal leader since 2017 in strength, what was previously called Industri Energi. Strength is an association of the two former LO associations Industri Energi and the Association for Management and Technology. Former LO leader Peggy Hessen Feelsvik does not run for re -election in LO after the news that Jørn Eggum is drawing his candidacy. Photo: William Jobs / news does not stand for re -election Peggy Hessen Feelsvik holds that she will not continue as head of LOS more than 1 million members. Thus, a new top manager must be in place in Norway’s supreme largest employee organization. And the nomination committee has a bad time, for the important LO congress, where the leadership election will take place, will take place already next week. The congress is held every four years and brings together delegates from all counties and unions in LO. -We note that Jørn Eggum has drawn his candidacy as LO leader. The nomination committee now continues to find a unifying and good attitude to new LO management to submit to the LO congress, says the election committee’s chairman Mette Nord. The “Joint Federation’s turn” One of the candidates that is most often mentioned among the sources news talks to is Kine Asper Vistnes. She has been part of the Commonwealth’s leadership since 2013 and became the federation’s first female deputy leader in 2022. news has asked her if she is open to becoming a new LO leader, she has now replied that she does not stand. The fact that Kine Asper Vistnes was highlighted is not at least two factors: It was intended that she would take over the management of the Fellesforbundet when Jørn Eggum was scheduled to be folded as a LO leader. Disputing: Peggy Hessen Feelsvik gives up as a LO leader. Photo: Lise Åserud / NTB died on the post that day came the shock message that LO leader Hans-Christian Gabrielsen had died of heart failure at home in the home at Slemmestad outside Oslo. Gabrielsen was only 53 years old and should have led the organization for many more years. Gabrielsen came from the Fellesforbundet, while the heir Peggy Hessen Feelsvik has a background from another of LO’s union, namely Trade and Office. Today, Steinar Krogstad Fellesforbundet’s husband is in LO’s top leadership. It embraces eight people from various federations and consists of the LO leader, two deputy leaders and five LO secretaries. But Krogstad has already announced that he is not relevant for re -election. Thus, the Fellesforbundet should nevertheless have at least one representative in the management. The argument against Kine Asper Vistnes can reach the top as a LO leader, is partly based in the fact that she has somewhat less experience than the most relevant counter-candidates. It is otherwise common for an LO leader to either be recruited from LO’s management or even come from the position of federal leader. The Fellesforbundet is the largest in the private sector, but the most largest and most powerful is the Trade Union, which organizes a number of professional groups in the public sector. The union has recorded Henriette Jevnaker and re-election on Kristin Sæther to the LO management. -It is now up to the nomination committee to present a recommendation on what a new LO management should look like, says Deputy Helene Skeibrok to news. Recommendation: The trade union’s Mette Nord chairs LO’s election committee. Photo: Peder Bergholt / news Other names Frode Alfheim is another candidate for the LO leader. He leads the union strength, an association of the two former LO associations Industri Energi and the association for management and technique. Alfheim sits on the nomination committee today, and then must step out of this post. According to news’s experience, Alfheim will have support as a new LO leader from several heavy unions, among them the third largest, trade and office. Central sources in the organization state to news that he is professionally skilled, enjoys great confidence and is unifying. The EL and the IT association will also join Alfheim if he makes himself available. Another strength man is also highlighted, namely Are Tomasgard. As a LO secretary, he is already part of the LO management. And like the other candidates, he has a party book in order. LO’s leaders have all been members of the Labor Party, and Tomasgard was part of Aps program committee ahead of the national meeting. LO-top: LO Secretary Are Tomasgard. Photo: Ole Berg-Rusten / NTB The 57-year-old from Odda has more than 12 years behind him in the LO management. Before Christmas, he was proposed by his own union as new deputy leader in LO. “He has great capacity, is solid professionally, and is a clear voice on behalf of the whole LO,” said federal leader Frode Alfheim at the time. When asked who strength wishes as a new LO leader, the association answers:-We do not want to comment on these questions publicly as of now. Our federal leader Frode Alfheim sits on the nomination committee, says communications director Johnny Håvik. Strength is LO’s fourth largest union, with 80,000 members in the oil, gas, land industry, management and technique. LO-top: Frode Alfheim from the LO-associated strength.
