July has been record wet in many places in the country – news Vestland

Many of us have had a solid dose of rain this summer. According to the Meteorological Institute, it has actually been so wet that as many as 16 stations can boast rainfall records in July. But there are still two days left in July, and more rain is expected this weekend. – This means that there may be more records, says state meteorologist Ingvild Villa. Wettest July in 43 years The wet and gray summer has several consequences. The campsites despair that people are cancelling, while farmers struggle with the third wettest summer since the 1950s. At the same time, Westerners are making pilgrimages to solariums to get a bit of colour, something that gives extra kroner in the coffers for the sun studio. The stations that appear on the rather broken statistics are to be found from Western Norway and northwards. Of the 16 stations, it is in Northern Norway that we find the two wettest places. In Leirfjord, a whopping 293.4 mm of rain fell in July. And with this, Leirfjord broke its rain record from 1982. The second wettest on the list is the measuring station Grunnfarnes with 274.2 mm. The podium goes to Kvamskogen in Vestland with 259.5 mm. There may be even more records The oldest of the records comes from Otterøy in Trøndelag. The last time it was this wet here in July was in 1979, but now this year’s July can boast of being even more humid with 184.9 mm. According to the meteorologist, the measuring stations must have been in operation for 15 years or more in order for them to register records. Leirfjord in northern Norway is the oldest of the 16 stations. Measurements have been made here since 1950. – How common is it that there are so many records at the measurement stations? – Many of these are in the same area, so if there is a lot of rainfall in one place, often many other stations in the vicinity will also notice it well, says Vill. She adds that it is in the cards that there would be a number of rainfall records for the month of July – and that it is still possible that several stations appear on the list.
