Manhattan judge Juan M. Merchan has rejected US president-elect Donald Trump’s attempt to have the verdict against him scrapped in the so-called bribery case. Trump tried to have the sentence dismissed on the basis of a ruling from the country’s highest court which states that Trump cannot be prosecuted for any offenses he may have committed as president. The kickback case is about $130,000 that was paid to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election campaign, and which was supposed to make her keep a close eye on her alleged relationship with Trump. Trump has not been found guilty of having paid out the money, but of having falsified documents and of having broken the accounting law in connection with the payment, which was made by his then lawyer Michael Cohen.
