18 July 2023 at 00:07 Judge halts abortion ban in Iowa A court in the US state of Iowa has temporarily blocked a new law banning abortion after the sixth week, writes NBC News. The law, which was passed by Republicans in the state assembly last week, and signed by the Republican governor (Kim Reynolds, pictured) on Friday, is among the strictest in the United States. Until now, abortion has been legal in Iowa up to the 20th week of pregnancy. The case will probably end up in the Supreme Court. A similar law was halted by the Supreme Court in 2018, but after that the Roe v. Wade ruling (the right to free abortion) has been overturned and the Supreme Court’s majority has changed.
