Jonas Gahr Støre speaks to the national board after the election defeat – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

– Let me start by thanking each and every one of you for your efforts in the election campaign. This is how party leader Jonas Gahr Støre begins his speech to the Labor Party’s national board meeting. – I want to be completely honest and say: Overall, the election gave a far too bad result for the Labor Party. Overall, it is also my responsibility, says Støre. He goes on to say that the result did not live up to the party’s ambitions. – We did not become the largest party, and we are losing power in many places. I understand that many call it a crisis. I also recognize that the situation is serious. He says it hurts to lose the trust of the voters. Worst election in 99 years The municipal and county council elections were the Labor Party’s worst election in 99 years. Nationally, they received only 21.6 percent of the vote. Høyre was the big winner, and has now taken over the throne as the country’s largest party. Although much is still uncertain after the election, it is clear that the Labor Party is losing many mayors around the country. There is tension about how the leadership of the party will now come to grips with the defeat and evaluate the election. The party has previously promised a thorough evaluation, and invites the entire organization to participate in the work. Will not call it a crisis Both party veteran Martin Kolberg and outgoing mayor of Fredrikstad, Siri Martinsen, have referred to the election defeat in the Labor Party as a crisis. – I think that now it is important that the Labor Party takes a foot on the ground and acknowledges the situation the party is in, Martinsen told news at the weekend. She believes that the Labor Party has lost a lot of trust. So far, no one in the party leadership has chosen to call the situation a crisis. – This is a far too bad choice from Ap. We can and must and want to do much better than this. And then we must also have self-awareness, be self-critical, be honest with each other and precisely find out what went wrong and focus on the future. I think it is more important than what we call this, said deputy chairman Jan Christian Vestre at the weekend.
