– Now you have a record that will be very difficult to beat in this marginal sport. Imagine that it is possible to be so superb in biathlon, says commentator Andreas Stabrun Smith. Nobody could do anything to Johannes Thingnes Bø in Anterselva when he secured another World Cup victory. Hush to the crowd This was his sixth World Cup victory in a row, something no one has managed earlier in the same season on the men’s side. – He is absolutely superb. He’s won every individual competition since Christmas and yet you look at him and he’s so focused every time he comes into shooting, he does everything he’s supposed to, he never lets up or relaxes or messes up on the stand. And he goes fast from the first pole and accelerates all the way to the finish line. How will the other boys have a chance? says news’s biathlon expert Synnøve Solemdal. Photo: VINCENZO PINTO / AFP Tarjei Bø is full of words of praise when he talks about his little brother. Bø had a tough time in Anterselva and eventually finished eleventh. – It is never going to happen. He will continue as well. Now it’s the WC, where everyone is going to be a little more sharpened, so he may get a little more battle, but he is the favourite, the clear biggest favorite ever going into a championship, says Bø to news. The Norwegian won in style, and crossed the finish line with a lead of as much as 40 seconds down to Sturla Holm Lægreid. While he was about to collect the victory, he made a somewhat unexpected maneuver. The star biathlete appeared to be huffing and puffing at the crowd. – Hehe, look at him! exclaimed news’s biathlon expert Ola Lunde. On the way to the finish, however, he got the mood up with the audience where he waved and put on a show for those present. HYSJET: Johannes Thingnes Bø made an unexpected gesture towards the audience in Anterselva. Photo: VINCENZO PINTO / AFP Big brother thinks the show is actually a bit unlike him. – He is really not much of a showman, just a fantastic sportsman. He is very little “cocky”, as they say in Sweden, they can’t catch him for that. He’s a humble guy, even his big brother is quite kind to him, even if he crushes me, says Bø. Strong run by Lægreid With a lead of half a minute from the start, he was the big favorite and took advantage of that starting point. Thingnes Bø had a dream start at the start of the hunt when he shot a full house on both the first and second shooting. The Norwegian got an even better lead early on and it didn’t take long before it was barely a minute down to Sturla Holm Lægreid in second place. There were two misses in total, with one on each standing shooting. Nevertheless, he went controlled and easy to victory in Italy. Photo: VINCENZO PINTO / AFP Lægreid also delivered a brilliant run, with some lightning-fast series and 20 hits. He ended up in second place, and one wonders if he could have done anything more to beat his superb teammate. – He cannot do better. I don’t quite know what he’s thinking now, but it must be frustrating to run such good biathlon races and still see that it’s no use, says Solemdal. – Johannes is unbeatable Even Lægreid is very satisfied with four full houses. – Yes, it was absolutely crazy, it was really fun today, to start with ten hits in a row and have a good starting point for the standing series and just be able to go my own way. And it’s been a while since I last shot 20 hits, so I thought after 15 out of 15 that now I have the opportunity, and it was really nice to fill up the last series. IMPRESSED: Sturla Holm Lægreid did almost everything right, but it resulted in second place for the 25-year-old. Photo: Vesa Moilanen / NTB – How is it to be so good and yet so far behind? – When Johannes is so much better, it is difficult to compare yourself to him. I have hopefully many years left in my career, so starting to find form and shooting now, and hopefully just getting better and better, then I can be scary in many years, I think. Johannes will have a bad night’s sleep if he is to keep me behind for the next few seasons. He points out that Thingnes Bø is “completely raw”, and that in the form he is in now, it will take many obstacles for him to stumble. – It was third place yesterday and second place today. Being second best is not quite where you want to be, but Johannes is unbeatable, so then I get to call myself the best of mortals, says Lægreid.
