The ongoing  trial  of former Colombian president  Álvaro Uribe  has stirred significant public interest and debate. In light of this, his younger son,  Jerónimo Uribe , has taken to social media platform X to express his views and defend his father. Faced with accusations of  bribery ,  procedural fraud , and related charges, Jerónimo has outlined perceived inconsistencies in the legal proceedings.

Through a series of posts, Jerónimo highlighted three key points that he believes illustrate the  inequities  of the legal system in Colombia. He directly criticized senator  Iván Cepeda , claiming that the justice system has failed to investigate certain politicians’ alleged ties to the  FARC  (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia).

“Good morning, I remind you that in the country in which we are: 1. ‘Don Iván’ Cepeda was never investigated for his links with the FARC, because Raúl Reyes’ computers invalidated that,” tweeted Jerónimo, showcasing his belief that the information obtained from these computers should challenge Cepeda’s credibility.

In continuation of his defense, Jerónimo pointed out individuals he believes should also face legal repercussions. In his tweets, he wrote, “2. A Mr. Alias ‘screw’ legislates with a curul given. 3. Timochenko, unpunished children’s recruiter, asks to condemn Álvaro Uribe,” insisting that these cases underlined a double standard in the judicial system.

Jerónimo concluded his posts with the phrase, “ Álvaro Uribe is not alone , suggesting a rallying cry for supporters of the former president amidst these trying times.

Notably,  Tomás Uribe , the eldest son of Álvaro Uribe, also took to X to express his support. He suggested that the case against his father be discussed in “ academic stages ,” promoting  debate  as a means to ensure a fair judgment. “ Democracy is at stake , and whoever wants to contribute can promote webinars, debates, and discussions,” Tomás urged.

Tomás highlighted that the evidence supporting his father’s claims is readily available online, particularly on  YouTube , claiming it provides a strong foundation for Uribe’s defense. “ The tests in favor are blunt and are all on YouTube ,” he stated, underlining his belief that the public should engage with the information critically.

In a document shared by Tomás, he elaborated on four primary points meant to illustrate procedural flaws in the case against his father. The first point, dubbed  “Lawfare against Uribe,”  asserts that the case is rooted in politically motivated actions beginning during the administration of Juan Manuel Santos and continuing under Gustavo Petro’s government.

Tomás also touched on alleged political persecution, attributing it to figures such as current  Minister of Defense  Eduardo Montealegre and Iván Cepeda, the senator who has positioned himself as a victim in the case. “The trial is built on manipulated recordings and discredited witnesses,” claimed Tomás, emphasizing that these elements represent a systematic targeting of his father.

The response from the Uribe family reflects an ongoing commitment to defending their father’s legacy amid turbulent political waters. As the legal proceedings advance, the family hopes that open discussions will lead to the truth being surfaced, allowing  Álvaro Uribe  to reclaim his place in Colombian politics unencumbered by  judicial controversies .

On  July 28, 2025 , a pivotal moment looms on the horizon as Judge  Sandra Liliana Heredia  prepares to render a verdict on whether to acquit or condemn former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez. The weight of history, familial loyalty, and political implications hangs heavily over this critical juncture in Colombia’s landscape.
